I heard a quote from Stephen King about his writing process. One of the ideas he mentioned, that I have since heard other authors mention, is staying in the story.

As an indie writer with a day job, I am finding staying in the story is tough. I try to write almost every day, but sometimes that does not happen. Family and work obligations come first.

At this time, my process would be considered as a Plantser (both planning and writing by the seat of my pants). I like to plan out the overarching story, plots, and themes, but as I write I like to go where the characters take me. I have found myself adding a couple chapters here and there to highlight a character or keep the pace moving along.

However, I recently hit an obstacle as I had been away from the story for longer than I expected. As I picked up where I left off I found myself getting frustrated. I ended up having to reread several chapters to get back into the flow of not only what I was writing, but how I was writing. (Yeh, I am still discovering my style).

While I feel this was a bit of a set back in the momentum I had been generating, I hope it helps you in your endeavors. Grab your flaming sword, channel your inner dragon, and keep fighting the good fight!
