I was growing up with the first Karate Kid movie released. At the time it was likened to Rocky for the martial arts crowd. It was even nicknamed by some, “The Ka-Rocky Kid.”
It is the classic tale of the new kid in town picked on by bullies. Kid finds a mentor and overcomes the bullies. Yes, that is very simplified, but you get the gist. It was inspirational and martial studios/schools/dojos started seeing new students in record numbers. I was one of them.
I ended up getting my black belt in Okinawan Isshin-Ryu Karate. I tested in front of the founder’s son-in-law, Angi Uezu. It was a proud moment in my life. It is no wonder I was excited to follow the recent series, Cobra Kai, first on YouTube, then on Netflix.
I just finished watching the series finale of Cobra Kai. I am happy with the way they concluded the show. In my opinion they ended with the right amount of camaraderie, closure, and comedy.
Did you watch Cobra Kai? What did you think? Let me know in the comments.
