Over the last couple of months, I have had the opportunity to volunteer for several amazing events. The first event was WorldCon-Seattle and the second was the Million Meal Pack.

Volunteer Events

If you are not familiar with WorldCon, it is an annual international convention for science-fiction and fantasy fans, creators, and professionals. It moves around the world from year to year. This August it was in Seattle, Washington. I was a virtual volunteer on both the discord and social media sites related to the convention. I had a wonderful time attending virtual panels, discussions, and readings by some of my favorite fantasy authors. I also helped promote events and answer questions on the discord.

The convention is run entirely by volunteers. And, I must say, the people behind the scenes do a tremendous amount of work for no pay. They are passionate about the event, the people, and the work of so many creatives. I hope to attend the 2026 WorldCon in Los Angeles for the release of my upcoming fantasy novel.

Volunteers at Million Meal Pack

Later, in September, was my third time to help with the local Million Meal Pack. This annual community event brings together thousands of volunteers. In one day we pack one million shelf-stable meals for people facing food insecurity in Atlanta, Georgia. It was so much fun to work along side friends for an hour shift where we pack several thousand meals.

Both WorldCon-Seattle and Million Meal Pack were amazing events to give back to communities I love. What volunteer opportunities do you take part in?
